No. 15 Women's Golf to Compete in NCAA Regionals

KENT, Ohio – The No. 15 Kent State University women's golf team looks to qualify for the NCAA National Championship at the regional championship, hosted by Texas Tech, at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas May 8-10.
The Golden Flashes are the fourth seed in the 18 team field. The goal for Kent State is to finish among the top six teams in the field to earn a spot at nationals. The three round tournament begins Monday at 8 a.m., with the Flashes teeing off at 9 a.m. on hole one.
Kent State is joined in Lubbock, in order of seeding, by: No. 2 UCLA, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 10 Furman, No. 18 Texas, No. 23 Oklahoma, BYU, San Diego State, Texas Tech, TCU, UNLV, Oregon, Iowa State, Oregon State, Murray State, Georgetown, Richmond and Sacred Heart. Individuals joining these teams are: Caroline Nistrup of LSU, Malene Krolboll Hansen of Coastal Carolina, Lois Kaye Go of Boston College, Alivia Brown of Washington State, Jakeishya Le of California-Riverside and Katrina Prendergast of Colorado State.
Competing in West Texas for the first time this year, Kent State is expected to deal with inclement weather conditions throughout the tournament. Highs are in the 80's for all three rounds, with rain expected Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Flashes enter the regional tournament in the midst of its most dominant campaign in program history. Kent State is on pace to blow by the program record for scoring average at 289.39, 2.12-over par. The Flashes hold a finishing percentage of 88.7 percent and have recorded 14 rounds of par or less, both program records. The team's 482 birdies is more than any other team in the nation.
The squad is led by the team's ace, Pimnipa Panthong. The freshman is ranked 17th in the country and is the third highest ranked golfer in the field. However, the lineup features four All-MAC First Teamers who are nationally ranked. Wad Phaewchimplee ranks 70th, Michaela Finn ranks 105th and Karoline Stormo ranks 217th. Rounding out the lineup will be Kelly Nielsen, who had a top-25 finish at the MAC Championship to help the team take its 19th straight title.
