KENT, Ohio – Kent State University golfers Pimnipa Panthong and Ian Holt were each named All-Americans by Golfweek, as announced this week.
Freshman Panthong was named to the second team, while Holt received an honorable mention. Of all honorees, the Golden Flash duo were two of nine golfers honored from non "Power 5" conferences.
Panthong finished her first collegiate season by earning MAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors. Panthong led the nation with 139 birdies in 2016-17. Her scoring average of 71.49 is a new program record and one of the 20 best scoring averages in NCAA Division I history. She set several other school records, including the lowest round ever at 63 and the lowest three-round tournament score of 203.
Holt had a record-setting year himself and also won the 2017 MAC Player of the Year award. Holt was one of only five players in the nation to reach 160 birdies, while his total of seven eagles is a program record. His scoring average of 71.54 was just short of Jon Mills and Ben Curtis for the program record. His average score of 4.605 on Par-5's is a new program best.
Having made it to the NCAA National Championship this past season, Holt and Panthong are each slated to return for another strong season in 2017-18.
