Soccer Clipped 2-0 by Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Kent State soccer team (1-3) fell on the road 2-0 to Florida Gulf Coast (4-1) on Friday, Sept. 1 at the FGCU Soccer Complex. The match was plagued by severe weather in the area as the 7 p.m. scheduled start turned into a late night 9 p.m. kickoff.
The Eagles scored their first goal of the match in the 20th minute when Marjorie Boilesen sent a header into to the net for her fourth goal of the season. Varin Ness and Ashley Parks recorded assists on the goal.
Lauren Greene tallied FGCU's second goal in the 82nd minute for her first goal of the season on a Holly Fritz assist 35-yards out on a free kick.
The Golden Flashes were paced in shots by Donavan Capehart and Vital Kats who launched four each.
Florida Gulf Coast outshot Kent State 14-13 overall and 7-6 on shots on goal. The Eagles also had an advantage in corner kicks 5-2. Kent State outshot FGCU 8-7 in the second period.
Melissa Weck recorded the win and moves to 4-1 on the season and made six saves. Katie Kingsbury falls to 1-1 while allowing two goals and making four saves.
Kent State will finish up the weekend of non-conference action at the FGCU Tournament, Sunday, Sept. 3, when they tangle with Florida Atlantic for a morning 10:30 a.m. kickoff.
