LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kent State lost both of its matches Saturday at the Cardinal Classic. The Golden Flashes were defeated by host Louisville, 3-0(14-25, 17-25, 19-25) in their first match of the day before falling to No. 24 WKU, 3-0 (19-25, 15-25, 15-25).

"It was a tough weekend," said head coach Don Gromala. "We saw some things we're not accustomed to with the physicality of some of the teams in this tournament and the styles of offense they ran. There were some good defensive moments and some good serving moments, but our offense needs some work. For us to compete longer with teams of this caliber, we have to maintain a high level of focus and be able to adjust better. I know the team is determined to work hard and get us going in a positive path."
Senior outside hitter Kelsey Bittinger led Kent State with 16 kills. Freshman Naomi Oberg contributed 10 kills and freshman setter Natalie Tagala recorded 29 assists.
Senior libero Challen Geraghty tallied 22 digs and Bittinger added 12 digs.
Geraghty, a Louisville native, earned all-tournament team honors with an average of 5.00 digs per set.
