Flashes Return to Action at RedHawk Rumble

The Kent State cross country program will compete at the RedHawk Rumble in Oxford, Ohio on Saturday for its second race of the season. The meet is hosted by Miami University and will be run on the same course as the 2017 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships, which is set for Oct. 28.
The day will start with the men's 8k race at 11 a.m. with the women's 6k race scheduled for noon.
Last Time Out
The season-opening Tommy Evans Invitational was run in a downpour at Silver Creek Metro Park on Sept. 7.
The men's teams went 1-2 in a 5k race that was shortened from its original 4-mile course. The Golden Flashes defeated Youngstown State (19-45) and lost to Akron (16-45) and Malone (20-40).
Sam Goodman paced four Kent State runners that placed in the top 20 with a time of 15:21.2 that finished sixth. Nick Schank (15:39.3) placed 13th, Brandon Avers (15:43.6) finished 16th and Josh Gogan (15:57.0) took 20th.
On the women's side, the Flashes went 3-2 in the 5k race, defeating Cleveland State (26-31), Robert Morris (15-50) and Youngstown State (18-41) and narrowly losing to Akron (25-32) and Malone (26-30).
Freshman Maddie Dunlap made an impressive collegiate debut, pacing Kent State at 18:09.8 to place third. Dunlap led the pack for a good portion of the race and finished in a time that would have won the event three of the past four years. Three additional Flashes turned in top-15 performances. Jaimie Adams (18:33.4) took 9th, Olivia Davis (18:41.0) placed 12th and Nicole Fleming (18:41.4) finished 13th.

The Golden Flashes will head to the site of the 2017 MAC Cross Country Championships for the RedHawk Rumble on Sept. 23 in Oxford, Ohio.
