KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University field hockey team (3-6) is headed to St. Louis for a pair of nonconference matches this weekend against Richmond Saturday at 4 p.m. EST/3 p.m. CST and St. Louis Sunday at 3:30 p.m. EST/2:30 CST.
The weekend slate serves as the final leg of an 11-match road trip that has lasted since the beginning of the season on Aug. 25. Over those 11 matches, the Golden Flashes have faced some of the nation's top squads. The schedule so far has been highlighted by a victory at No. 23 Ohio State, 2-1, and a win at St. Francis, 1-0.
Last weekend, Kent State began its Mid-American Conference schedule with a shutout victory at Appalachian State, 3-0. The Flashes held the home team to six shots, three on goal, and picked up goals from Helen Harper, Laila Richter and Alison Harmatz.
The weekend presents the final road nonconference matches for Kent State this season. The Flashes will head home to play on a brand new turf at Murphy-Mellis Field on Sept. 29 against Miami, with only one nonconference match remaining.
Richmond enters the weekend in search of the program's first win of the season, with a match against the Billikens Friday. Richmond's 0-7 record includes losses against five nationally ranked teams. Freshman Florentine Beelaerts Van Blokland is the team's leading scorer at four goals.
St. Louis enters the weekend at 3-4, with wins over Central Michigan, Colgate and LIU Brooklyn. The program is on the rise, already matching its win total over the previous two seasons. Carly Kissinger is the team's most productive offensive player, with three goals and two assists.
