Fraga’s Long Jump Record Sets Tone for Akron Dual Sweep

KENT, Ohio – Samory Fraga set a program record for the men's long jump in the first event of the meet to set the tone as the Kent State track and field program swept rival Akron in a dual meet on Friday at the Kent State Field House. The men's team won 83-67, while the women's team earned an 88-62 victory.
The Golden Flashes took first in 20 of the 28 events on the night, and took the top three spots in four events.
The night began with the highly-anticipated men's long jump, and Kent State delivered in a big way. Fraga won the event with a jump of 25'-04.50", which beat the previous program record by nearly three inches. TJ Lawson jumped 24'-09.75" in his first attempt to place second and move into seventh into the program's record book.
Riak Reese led a dominant performance in men's sprints, taking first in both the 60-meter dash (6.76) and 200-meter dash (21.11), which moves him into fourth in program history. Brandon Wilson and Brandon Harris were right behind and took second and third, respectively, in both events. Wilson clocked a 6.86 in the 60-meters and 21.90 in the 20-meters, while Harris ran a 6.86 in the 60-meters and 22.07 in the 200-meters.
Kent State also placed 1-2-3 in the shot put on the men's side. David Paliscak was recorded a best throw of 56'-03.25" to win the event for the second straight week. Walter Petzel (54'-06.75") and Douglas Moorer Jr. (52'-09.25" placed second and third, respectively.
The women won 11 events and Maddie Dunlap led the way with two individual event victories. Dunlap won the mile (5:08.37) and 3,000-meter run (10:29.68). Olivia Davis (5:14.07) and Sarah Pack (5:16.20) finished behind Dunlap to give the Flashes the top three spots in the mile.
Kent State also went 1-2-3 in the triple jump. Britni Phillips won the event with a mark of 39'-03.25", Sarena Choi took second at 37'-09.25" and Talia Falco placed third with a best jump of 37'08.75".
Kent State returns to action at the Findlay Classic and Elite on Friday, Jan. 26 in Findlay, Ohio.
