
Flashes in Top-10 After First Day at Royal Oaks

CARROLLTON, Texas- The Kent State University men's golf team stood in ninth place at +28 midway through the second round of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate before play was suspended on Monday evening at the Maridoe Golf Club.
The Flashes posted a team score of 300 on the 7,008-yard, par-70 course in the morning session and were at +8 through 15 holes in the afternoon round before play was halted.
Oklahoma State held the first-day lead at -12. Arkansas stood in second at +4 with NC State (+6), North Carolina (+12) and SMU (+15) rounding out the top-five teams.
Johnny Travale leads the Flashes' lineup after he recorded 2-over par 72 and is tied for ninth, followed by Will Kurtz who finished his opening round at 3-over par 73.
Bjarki Petursson carded an opening round score of 7-over and is tied for 48th, while Gisli Sveinbergsson is tied for 60th after he fired an 8-over 78 score.
Josh Gilkison rounds out Kent State's lineup with a 10-over par 80 score.
Teams will resume the Second Round at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday and continue play with the same pairings for the Final Round. Unlike most collegiate events, the Flashes will compete together in a group, beginning off No. 16 Tuesday.
