KENT, Ohio –The Kent State University field hockey team (4-9, 2-1 MAC) picked up its second Mid-American Conference win, defeating Central Michigan (1-13, 0-4 MAC), 5-1, at Murphy-Mellis Field on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Hailie Balachick led the Kent State attach, netting two goals on the day.

The Flashes dominated the game offensively out of the gate, taking the first shot of the game in the first minute of play and gaining a 1-0 lead in the 10^thminute. Balachick fired the first shot from in front of the goal on a pass from senior Courtney Weise. Kent State added a second goal in the first half on direct corner off the stick of junior Laila Richter. Freshman Helena Cambra Soler and sophomore Clara Rodriguez Seto recorded assists on the play.

The Kent State attack continued to shine in the second half, adding three goals to extend the lead to 5-0. Balachick netted her second goal of the day unassisted in the 47^thminute, and Weise notched another unassisted in the 55^thminute. Sophomore Emma Bressler added to the action in the 57^thminute, notching her third of the season.

Central Michigan ended the shutout in the 66^thminute with the final goal of the game to bring the score to 5-1.

Kent State held a 20-6 advantage in shot attempts with nine different players attacking the cage, totaling 13 shots on goal. In goal for the Flashes, junior Mary Crumlish recorded two saves.

The Flashes will host Ball State University for a conference matchup at Murphy-Mellis Field on Friday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
