KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University men's golf head coach Herb Page announced the addition of three standout golfers who have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Golden Flashes for the 2018-19 season. The trio of Jack Crawshaw (Winnetka, Ill.), Cade Breitenstine (Akron, Ohio), and Chris Vandette (Beaconsfield, Quebec) have signed National Letters of Intent to become the newest members of the Kent State Men's Golf Team.
"It's always special when you can sign three very talented players in one class," said Page. "Cade, Chris, and Jack all bring different strengths to our program and I am excited to see what the next four years will bring."
Crawshaw, a native of Illinois, has won back-to-back IHSA State Regional Championships as well as being named to the All-Conference Team (Chicago Catholic League) the last two years. Crawshaw also placed third at the IJGA Dupage County Junior Classic and at the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour Orchard Valley Open.
"We are excited to introduce Jack Crawshaw from Winnetka, Illinois to the Kent State family," said Page. "Jack has all the right ingredients to make a big impact on this golf team. With his ability to hit the long ball, his game is well suited for our style of play."
Breitenstine, a local golfer from Akron, Ohio, is ranked 76th in the country by the American Junior Golf Association and ranked second in Ohio by the Junior Golf Score Board. Breitenstine won the 2018 Tom Holzer AJGA Junior Championship at Forest Lake Golf Club in Bloomfiel Hills, Mich., shooting 12-under par and rounds of 65-66-70, winning by one shot. In 2017, he won the same event shooting a 7-under par score.
"Getting a local talent such as Cade who's played at an elite level is always special," Page said. "He's a complete player that can overpower a golf course and it will be exciting to see him compete at the collegiate level."
Vandette, a two-year member of the Team Canada Junior Squad, is a credentialed young golfer. This year, Vandette won the Duke of York Young Championship Trophy, held in Inverness, England, against some of the best juniors in the world. He also won the 2018 Canadian Junior Boys Championship shooting a 66 final-round score to win by two strokes. In 2017, he won the Canada Summer Games along with the 2017 Quebec Men's Provincial Amateur Championship, and the 2017 Quebec Junior Championship.
"Plain and simple, Chris possesses the rare talent of being able to win golf tournaments," said Page. "He's got well round game with very little weaknesses making him a great addition to the program."
