
Flashes Host Frenzy at the Field House Friday; Visit Penn State Sunday

Kent State's weekend of stiff competition begins Friday (Nov. 9), hosting the Frenzy at the Field House.ย The Golden Flashes will take on CSU-Bakersfield at 4 p.m., followed by duals with No. 18 Wisconsin (1-0) and No. 3 Iowa.ย Two days later, the Flashes will visit No. 1 Penn State at 2 p.m. inside Rec Hall.
Friday's event will include two mats inside the Kent State Field House as CSU Bakersfield will take on both Iowa and Wisconsin.ย ย Live video can be seen on FloWrestling with a subscription and live stats can be followed on TrackWrestling.
Last weekend, the Golden Flashes (3-1) competed in four dual meets, boarded a bus early the next morning and competed in the Clarion Open in a span of less than 30 hours.ย Kent State won 26-of-29 matches in its first three duals with 21 bonus-point victories.ย On Saturday, seven Flashes placed in the top four, including individual titles from Isaac Bast (165), Dylan Barreiro (174) and Andrew McNally (184).

CSU Bakersfield opened its season last weekend with convincing wins over Life Pacific and San Francisco State.ย The Roadrunners finished third at the Pac-12 Championships last year.
Wisconsin opened its season with a 25-12 home victory over Buffalo last week.ย Sophomore 165-pounder Evan Wick placed third at the NCAA Championships last season.
Iowa opens their 2018-19 campaign Friday after finishing third at last year's NCAA Championships.ย Sophomore 125-pounder Spencer Lee is a returning NCAA champion.
Last season, Penn State won its seventh national title in eight years.ย The Nittany Lions return four individual NCAA champions

McNally Makes Strong First Impression
Sophomore 184-pounder Andrew McNally was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week after going 8-0 with seven bonus-point victories this past weekend.
One of two transfers from Eastern Michigan, McNally went 3-0 on Friday at the Kent State Duals with a 16-0 tech fall, an 18-6 major decision and a pin in 33 seconds. The next day, he won a 184-pound title at the Clarion Open, going 5-0 on with pins in his first three bouts.
After a solid redshirt freshman season at 174, McNally worked hard in the weight room in the offseason for his new role at 184.
- The Flashes' other Eastern Michigan transfer, Tomas Gutierrez, is competing for a starting spot at 125.ย The third-year sophomore went 4-2 in his opening weekend.
Series Histories
Friday will be Kent State's first program meeting with both CSU Bakersfield and Iowa.
Wisconsin leads the all-time series with Kent State 3-2, dating back to a 1938 meeting in Kent.ย In the most recent matchup, the Golden Flashes defeated the Badgers 33-10 on Feb. 17, 2013 at the M.A.C. Center as part of the NWCA National Duals regional events.
Penn State leads the all-time series with Kent State 7-0, most recently winning at the Virginia Duals in both 2010 and 2011.
