Tar Heels Spoil Women’s Basketball Opener with Late Run

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Kent State held a late lead in Friday's 73-60 season-opening loss at North Carolina. The Golden Flashes were outscored 23-8 over the final 4:52 of the game.
Redshirt junior Megan Carter led Kent State with 17 points and four assists. Senior Alexa Golden and freshmen Asiah Dingle and Hannah Young added nine points apiece.
Despite trailing by as many as 15 in the first period, the young Flashes squad battled back and held a two-point lead at the game's final media timeout.
The Tar Heels (2-0) won the rebounding battle, 47-40. Alexa Golden and freshman Lindsey Thall led the Flashes with seven boards each. Golden added four steals.
Kent State concludes the opening weekend of the regular season on Sunday when it visits 17th-ranked NC State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra.
