Flashes Place 12 on Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND - Twelve Kent State student-athletes were named to the 2018 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Football Team Monday by the conference office. For the second straight year, the Golden Flashes finished in the top half of the MAC in total players represented.
Linebacker Matt Bahr (Kenton, Ohio) and offensive lineman Chase Van Hoef (Grand Haven, Mich.) headlined Kent State's list as three-time selections. Bahr recently announced his plans for returning in 2019, after being granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA.
Five Flashes claimed spots on the Academic All-MAC Team for the second time in their careers, while five others are making first time appearances.

To be eligible for the academic accolade, student-athletes must be in at least their second year of school, carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and participate in 50 percent of the team's games that season. A total of 154 football players around the MAC earned academic all-conference honors this season.
A select group of Academic All-MAC honorees will be named MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes by the league's faculty representatives at a later date.
