MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Kent State overcame a slow shooting start to beat Robert Morris, 54-46, Friday night inside of the North Athletic Complex Student Rec Center.
The Golden Flashes (4-4) rallied from an eight-point first-half deficit to earn their first road win and even their record. Despite a 3-for-23 shooting performance over the first 20 minutes, Kent State only trailed by a score of 22-20 at halftime.
Senior Alexa Golden put the Flashes ahead for the first time with a putback and three-pointer on the first two possessions of the third period. The Flashes were able to stretch the lead 11 and held a 40-32 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Colonials were able to get within three points on three occasions with the Flashes having an answer each time. Freshman Lindsey Thall hit a three-pointer and senior Merissa Barber-Smith had a pair of putbacks, the last coming with just 1:07 to play to make it 51-46. The defense was able to prevent RMU from scoring the rest of the way.
Alexa Golden led Kent State with 11 points, all in the second half. Lindsey Thall scored nine points and Mariah Modkins added eight. Merissa Barber-Smith led the rebounding effort with 11 and Golden hauled in seven misses.
Kent State will have nine days off before returning to action at St. Bonaventure on Monday, Dec. 17.
