No. 26 Men’s Golf Looks to Defend Title at Boilermaker Invitational

KENT, Ohio- The No.26 Kent State men's golf team is set to defend its title in the Boilermaker Invitational, hosted by Purdue April 14-15 at the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Indiana.
The par 72, 7,465-yard course is located in the Birck Boilermaker Complex. The 54-hole event begins Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. ET to begin 36 holes, followed by the final 18 on Sunday.
The 2018 Boilermaker Invitational's field consists of 17 teams, three of which including Kent State are ranked top-50. The teams competing against the Golden Flashes include host No.39 Purdue, No.37 Northwestern, UCF, Ohio State, Miami (Ohio), Wisconsin, Michigan, Cincinnati, Indiana, Toledo, UT Arlington, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Witchita State, and Xavier.
Competing this weekend for the Flashes will be seniors Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio) and Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio), along with juniors Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) and and Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland), and freshman Josh Gilkison (Springboro, Ohio).
The Flashes are coming off an impressive performance from last weekend's Aggie Invitational. The Flashes finished in second place at 12-over 875, above four top-10 ranked teams in the nation. Senior Holt finished in a tie for third at 4-under.
At last year's event, the Flashes won the tournament with a 1-over 865 score, with Petersson claiming the tournament champion spot at 4-under 212.
