CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State redshirt senior Riak Reese has been named the Mid-American Conference's Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. The Gahanna, Ohio native has now been honored with the weekly award from the conference five times this year including the four awards he won during the indoor season.
Competing in his first collegiate outdoor track and field meet in nearly four years, Reese posted a pair of national Top-30 times Friday afternoon at the Florida Relays. Reese holds a No. 5 national ranking in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.43, as he placed third in a 14-athlete field that included sprinters who account for 10 of the Top 15 times in the country this season. His time is the third-fastest in program history. Reese started the day by clocking a 10.40, his top time in a Golden Flashes uniform, to finish fifth in the 100-meter dash. The redshirt senior's time ranks 27th in the country and seventh in Kent State history.
The Golden Flashes will head to Akron for the Northeast Ohio Quad on Friday and Saturday.
