Flashes Best Nation’s Top-Ranked Field at Aggie Invitational

BRYAN, Texas- The No. 31 Kent State Golden Flashes finished second place among the nation's top-ranked teams at the Aggie Invitational on Sunday. In their final round, the Golden Flashes shot a 3-under 285 for a tournament total of 876 (12-over).
Kent State finished 7 shots behind tournament champion No.1 Oklahoma State and finished above four top-10 ranked teams in the nation.
Individually, senior Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio) finished in a tie for third place at 4-under, after shooting a 2-under par 70 on Sunday. Holt finished the tournament with 12 birdies, with four in the final round. In addition to the top-ranked teams, Holt who is currently ranked 35th in the nation, finished ahead of 14 players who are ranked the top-50 golfers in the country. Holt also led the tournament on par 3 scoring at 4-under, and one eagle.
Junior Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland) finished in the top-10 with a 3-over par score of 219, firing a 1-under 71 for the third round with only one bogey.
Finishing in a tie for 12th place was junior Josh Gilkison (Springboro, Ohio). Gilkison carded a 4-over par 220 for the tournament and evened his final round with only one bogey.
Senior Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio) also evened his third round and finished in a tie for 28th at 9-over par 225. Johnson had his best performance on the final day with three birdies.
Junior Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) mirrored his second round score of 3-over 75 for the third round fnishing in a tie for 52nd totaling a 17-over 233.
The combined 44 birdies for the Flashes' five ranked fourth in the competition, and also contributed to leading the tournament on par 3's at 10-over.
No.1 Oklahoma State earned the team crown at 5-over 869.
Kent State is back in action April 14-15 as the Flashes compete in the Boilermaker Invitational in Indiana.
