
No. 29 Men’s Golf in Florida for NCAA Regionals

KENT, Ohio- The No. 29 Kent State men's golf team is set to compete in the NCAA Kissimmee Regional, hosted by Central Florida at the Reunion Resort May 14-16.
The Golden Flashes represent the five seed in the Kissimmee, set to compete in a field of 14 teams. The Flashes look to finish among the top-5 teams in order to advance to the NCAA National Championship in Stillwater, Okla. May 25-30.
Joining Kent State in the regional field, in order of seed, will be : No.5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Florida, No. 17 North Carolina, No. 20 South Florida, Arizona, Purdue, Colorado State, Saint Mary's (California), Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville State, Georgetown, and Central Connecticut State. Individuals competing are Steven Fisk (Georgia Southern), R.J. Keur (Alabama at Birmingham), Yannick Schutz (South Alabama), Billy Tom Sargent (Western Kentucky), and Saptak Talwar (Sacred Heart).
Kent State will enter the tournament with three of the five players in the lineup nationally ranked. Ian Holt leads the pack as the 27th ranked golfer in the country, followed by No. 152 Bjarki Petursson, and No. 194 Chase Johnson. Gisli Sveinbergsson and Josh Gilkison will round out the lineup for this week. Holt, Johnson, Petursson, and Sveinbergsson received All-MAC First Team honors, and Gilkison was named to the All-MAC Second Team.
Together, the group has put together a strong season. They hold a scoring average of 287.78 and is ranked 12th in the nation with 586 birdies. The group is coming off an impressive come from behind win at the Mid-American Conference Championship, after being 10-strokes behind.
