Field Hockey Falls 1-0 in Season Opener

EAST LANSING, Michigan –The Kent State University field hockey team opened the 2018 slate with a 1-0 loss to Old Dominion University, hosted at Michigan State University Saturday afternoon.
The Flashes (0-1) played a strong defensive game, holding the Old Dominion (2-0) to a single goal in 9 shots and 4 corners. Junior Mary Crumlish tallied 3 saves in the net for Kent State.
Kent State was held to a single shot and zero penalty corners. Senior Helen Harper took the only shot late in the game for the Flashes.
"We competed well with a very physical team," said head coach Kathleen Wiler, "We were unlucky to take a stroke in the second half. Overall, we are pleased with our team's performance and persistence."
Following a defensive first half, that saw only three shots by Old Dominion, Monarch Erin Huffman broke the tie by way of a penalty-shot goal in the 46thminute, which proved to be enough for the Monarchs.
The Flashes will be back in action Sunday afternoon against Michigan State in East Lansing, Michigan at 1 p.m.
