No. 13 Women’s Golf Leads Through Two Rounds at Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, NM- The No. 13 Kent State University women's golf team is off to a strong start after two rounds of the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational on Monday, currently top of the leaderboard sitting at 7-under par 569.
Kent State began the 2018-19 season shooting a 1-over par 289 in round one, putting them in the top-5 for a tie for fourth place. The Flashes ignited in the second round with a 4-under par 280 score climbing into first-place headed into the final day.
Senior Michaela Finn leads the lineup after the offseason, currently at 4-under par 140. Finn started the day off with an even-par 72. In the second round, Finn went 16 holes for par or better and finished the second round with a 4-under par 68 score, leading the tournament with 11 birdies.
Junior Marissa Kirkwood is tied for 10th with a 2-under par 142 score through two rounds. In the first round, Kirkwood shot a 1-under 71 score with the help of five birdies. The junior mirrored her first round score in the second round completing 11-straight holes for par and two birdies.
Standing in a tie for 16th is sophomore Chloe Salort who shot a 1-under par 142 score through two rounds. Salort opened the day with a 2-over par 74 score and shot 13 holes for par or better. In the second round, Salort improved on the course and shot a 3-under 69 score with the help of five birdies.
Pimnipa Panthong and Karoline Stormo round out the Flashes' lineup tied for 38th with  4-over 148 scores.  Panthong posted a first round score of 72 and a score of 76 in round two. Stormo fired a 76 first round score and finished the day with an even-par 72.
Sophomore Kory Nielsen, who is competing as an individual, sits tied for 29th with a 3-over 147 score. Nielsen fired a first round score of 2-over 74, followed by a second round score of 1-over 73.
Kent State enters the final round with a four-stroke lead over second place New Mexico and North Western. The third round tees off tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. (MDT). Live results are available at golfstat.com
