No.13 Women’s Golf Uses Second Round Push in Day One of Mercedes-Benz

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The No. 13 Kent State women's golf team sit in second place in the Mercedes-Benz Championship through 36 holes of play on Monday.
Led by Michaela Finn, the Flashes were able to cut 19 strokes from their round one score. The team moved up eight spots in the second round while Finn leaped 21 positions.
Through a rain-soaked day, Kent State finished the first round of golf with a 19-over par 303 score. After round one, the Flashes rebounded with a team score of even-par 284 in round two later in the day.
In the opening round, Finn shot a 4-over par 75 score with three birdies. The senior had a remarkable second-round performance shooting a 2-under par score. Finn went 16 holes for par or better with a flawless back-nine holes of bogey-free golf. At 2-over par through 36 holes, Finn sits tied for sixth.
Tied for 16th are Chloe Salort and Pimnipa Panthong with a 4-over par 148 score. The sophomore had the best finish on the team for her first round and shot a 1-over 72 score with four birdies. In round two, Salort finished with a 5-over score. Panthong finished round with a 6-over par 77 score and improved in the second round firing an even-par score with the help of five birdies.
Karoline Stormo sits in a tie for 33rd with a 9-over par 151 score through 36 holes. After shooting an 8-over par first-round score, Stormo came back in the second round and finished with a 1-over par 72 score. She finished the day with four birdies.
Rounding out the Flashes lineup is Marissa Kirkwood at 10-over par 152. Kirkwood fired a 9-over par score for the first round and shot a 1-over score in the second round.
Competing as an individual is Kory Nielsen who sits tied for 42nd with a 10-over par 152 score. The sophomore fired a 5-over par 76 score for her opening round and mirrored her score in the second round.
For Tuesday's final round, the Flashes will; be paired with Charlotte and Maryland at the top of the leaderboard. Another shotgun start awaits the field at 8:30 a.m. with live scoring at golfstat.com
