Flashes Drop Conference Opener to Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Kent State soccer team (4-4-1, 0-1-0 MAC) fell in its first Mid-American Conference match of the season to Eastern Michigan (6-4-0, 1-0-0), 2-0, at Scicluna Field. The loss marks the first time in four seasons the Golden Flashes have lost the league opener.
The match remained scoreless all the way until the 71st minute in the second period, when Eastern Michigan's Kristin Nason scored the first tally from a shot from inside the box on the right side. Nason wasn't done, as she gave the Eagles an insurance tally on a free kick from the left side in the 82nd minute.
The Golden Flashes led in shots, 20-12, but couldn't find the back of the net on seven shots on goal. Sophomores Vital Kats and Cameron Shedenhelm each led the team with eight and six shots respectively. Eastern Michigan only placed three shots on goal all night.
Kent State is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. when it concludes the opening weekend of conference play at Central Michigan.
