
Flashes Finish in Top-10 of Maui Jim

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.- The Kent State University men's golf team opened the 2018-19 season finishing eighth at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club on Sunday.
The Flashes finished in eighth place with a 9-under par score (290-269-282=831) at the 549 at the par-70, 7,081-yard course.
Senior Gisli Sveinbergsson led the Flashes' efforts with a 16th place finish for a 6-under par 204 score. In the third round, Sveinbergsson had a bogey-free round of golf which started with nine-straight pars before sinking a birdie on the No. 10 hole. The senior finished the day with a 1-under par score.
Senior Bjarki Petursson finished in a tie for 20th with a 4-under par score in the tournament. For the third round, the senior went 16 holes for par or less with birdies on holes 14 and 14.
Sophomore Josh Gilkison finished in a tie for 43rd after firing a third round score of 1-over par 71. Over 54 holes, Gilkison shot a 2-over par 212 score. Junior Chris Doody shot a 3-over par 73 score for his third round with two birdies. For the tournament, Doody finished in a tie for 48th with a 3-over par 213 score.
Rounding out the Flashes lineup was freshman Johnny Travale who finished in a tie for 56th with a 5-over par 215 score. In the third round, Travale mirrored his second round score and shot a 2-over par 72.
Freshman Julien Paltrinieri competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 48th at 3-over par 213. Paltrinieri finished the day with an even-par score and went 15 holes for par or less with three birdies.
The Flashes are back in action Oct. 8-9 as they compete in the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
