Field Hockey Travels to Longwood

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey team looks to pick up its first Mid-American Conference win as it hits the road to Farmville, Virginia, to face Longwood University on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 12:00 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (2-9, 0-1 MAC) will come into the match following tough losses to Miami and Saint Francis last weekend. Freshman Sydney Carr netted Kent State's lone goal of the weekend, her second of the season.
Midway through the season, the Flashes are led offensively by sophomore Clara Rodriguez Setó, who has notched 5 goals and recorded 4 assists. In addition to Carr, senior Jessica Apelt and junior Laila Richter have each scored 2 goals on the season. In goal, junior Mary Crumlish has racked up 49 saves, recording a season-high of 8 early in the season at Michigan State on August 26.
Scouting Longwood
Last time out, Longwood (7-2, 2-0 MAC) picked up its second conference victory, topping Appalachian State, 4-3 in double-overtime, and ended the weekend with a 4-1 win at Davidson. 7-2 overall this season, the Lancers' have faced three nationally ranked opponents, notably defeating No. 20 Liberty, 2-1 on Sept. 11.
On the season, Longwood has outscored its opponents 20-14 on 137 shot attempts and was ranked No. 19 in last week's NCAA RPI release. Offensively the Lancers are led by Leonie Verstraete and Olivia Wawrzyniak with 6 goals apiece. Verstraete has added 3 assists in the Lancers attack.
In goal, Katie Wyman has racked up 51 saves and a 1.52 goals against average. Wyman was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday following a 2-0 weekend where she compiled 11 saves and a .733 save percentage. Wyman sits at the top of the MAC standings in save percentage and among the league's top three in goals against average, shutouts, and saves per game.
A year ago, the Flashes defeated Longwood, 3-2 in overtime on a goal in the 73rd minute by Berta Jover Llorens to move into second place in the Mid-American Conference regular season.
The Flashes will take on the Lancers on Sunday, Sept. 30 in Farmville, Va. at 12:00 p.m.
