Golden Flashes Blanked By No. 5 Nittany Lions

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Kent State University field hockey team (1-5) was blanked, 8-0 on the road by No. 5 Penn State (3-1) in University Park Friday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions overpowered the Flashes, taking an early lead in the 10th minute of play. Penn State tacked on two more goals to extend their lead to 3-0 to end the first period. The Flashes took 4 shots in the first 35 minutes.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Nittany Lions extended their lead to 5-0 with back-to-back goals in the 37th minute. Penn State went on to add three more goals to end the game, 8-0.
The Flashes took 8 shots on the day, 4 of which on goal. Senior Jessica Apelt led the Flashes with 2 shots, both on goal. In the cage, goalkeepers Mary Crumlish and Rebecca Nelson tallied 7 saves for Kent State.
Kent State will be back on the turf on Sunday, facing Temple at 1:00 p.m.
