OXFORD, Ohio – Host Miami scored the first 11 points and never trailed as Kent State fell, 79-63, inside of Millett Hall on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes (10-8, 3-4 MAC) were outscored by just one point over the final 7:20 of the first quarter and played even with the RedHawks in each of the middle two quarters, but the early offensive onslaught was too much to overcome.
Redshirt junior Megan Carter led all players with 21 points. Freshman Lindsey Thall scored 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting and freshman Asiah Dingle had eight points and a team-high three assists and three steals. No other Kent State player made more than one field goal.
The Flashes' 34 points in the paint are the most against a Division I opponent this season. However, Miami scored 44 in the paint and connected on 54-percent of its field goal attempts overall, which included 29-for-43 inside of the three-point arc.
Kent State was outrebounded 35-28. Carter and seniors Merissa Barber-Smith and Alexa Golden grabbed five boards each to lead the Flashes.
Following a scheduled bye during the mid-week, Kent State will return to action at the M.A.C. Center on Saturday, Feb. 2 against rival Akron.
