Kats Records Two-Goal Match in Overtime Thriller

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State soccer team (5-7-2, 3-3-1 MAC) lost in heartbreaking fashion to Eastern Michigan (4-9-2, 3-4-0 MAC) in overtime, 3-2, at Dix Stadium on a chilly Friday evening. The Golden Flashes tied the match in the 83rd minute, but succumbed to the Eagles 10 minutes later in the overtime period.
Junior Vital Kats continued her hot streak in Mid-American Conference matches and scored both of Kent State's goals. With the Flashes trailing by one in the 20th minute, she launched a laser into the top left shelf of the net to tie the match. Junior Cameron Shedenhelm notched her sixth assist of the season.
Eastern Michigan went up 2-1 in the 44th minute right before the end of the first period on a Kylie Frantz goal.
Kats scored her second in the 83rd minute on a penalty kick for her seventh goal of the season. The Eagles won the match in overtime in the 93rd minute off a corner kick as Sabrina McNeil scored her second of the evening.
Kent State led in shots (22-10), shots on goal (9-6) and corner kicks (7-2).
The Flashes remain at home to conclude the weekend with a tilt against Central Michigan on Sunday, October 20th at 1 p.m.
