Flashes on the Road for MAC Battle Before Hosting Ohio State

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University field hockey team (9-6, 4-0) resumes conference play as the Flashes travel to Appalachian State on Friday for a 5 p.m. game before hosting Ohio State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Flashes enter Friday's game with sole possession of first place in MAC. Kent State defeated Central Michigan last Friday, 3-2 to keep the Flashes perfect in MAC play. Kent State suffered a 5-0 defeat at Northwestern on Sunday.
Flashes Picked Second in MAC Preseason
The Flashes were tabbed to finish second in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll and received one first-place vote and one vote to win the MAC Tournament Championship. Last season, Kent State finished 8-12 overall and 5-1 in MAC play before falling to Miami in the MAC Tournament Championship match.

Smart and Van Heertum also tie for team lead in points with 14 apiece. Sophomore Friederike Stegen paces the Mountaineers with six assists.
Kent State holds a 4-0 record against App State since 2013 and is 3-0 over the Mountaineers since App State entered the MAC in 2017.
Scouting Ohio State
The Buckeyes are 6-8 overall and 1-5 in conference after falling to Maryland 6-3. Ohio State is led in goals and points by freshman Mackenzie Allessie with 12 and 29. She is followed by senior captain Esther Clotet Alsina with 7 and 19.
Ohio State holds a 8-24 all-time series advantage over the Flashes. The two teams met last season with the Buckeyes defeating Kent State, 4-0.
