
Field Hockey Travels to Indiana This Weekend

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State field hockey team (5-5, 1-0) will make its way to Indiana for a two-game road trip. The Flashes will face Ball State (3-7, 1-1) on Friday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. in Muncie before closing out the weekend with Indiana (4-5, 1-2) on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon in Bloomington.
The Flashes opened conference play with a win last weekend as they took down Ohio, 5-1. Kent State dominated the game and outshot Ohio 28-10 with 13 shots on target to Ohio's seven. Luisa Knapp had her second multi-goal game of the season and scored two goals, while Ashley Bonetz, Clara Rodriguez Seto, and Sydney Carr all added a goal.
Flashes Picked Second in MAC Preseason Poll
The Flashes were tabbed to finish second in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll and received one first-place vote and one vote to win the MAC Tournament Championship. Last season, Kent State finished 8-12 overall and 5-1 in MAC play before falling to Miami in the MAC Tournament Championship match.

Scouting Ball State
The Cardinals are coming off a 2-0 win over Central Michigan at home last weekend and remain undefeated at home. The win was Ball State's second shutout of the season and first for goalkeeper Grace Chavez. Michelle Shampton and Sierra Jefferson lead the team with three goals each. The Cardinals, who lead the MAC in defensive saves with eight, have three players with two defensive saves (Rachel Pereira, Audrey Tabor, Hillary Scott).
The Flashes hold an all-time series advantage of 35-33. Last season, Kent State came away with a 5-0 victory over the Ball State at Murphy-Mellis Field.
Scouting Indiana
The Hoosiers stand 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference after dropping two games last weekend. Indiana opened its homestand with a 5-0 loss to Michigan followed by a 6-3 loss to Ohio State. Kelsey Giese scored both goals in the Ohio State game while goalkeeper Sachi Ananias recorded a career-high 13 saves. Hailey Couch leads the Hoosiers with five goals and 16 shots. Ananias enters the weekend ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten in saves per game with 6.56, which puts her at No. 13 in the nation among NCAA field hockey goalkeepers.
Indiana holds a 4-0 all-time series record. The last time the two teams met was back in 2015 with Indiana coming away with a 4-3 win.
