Kent, OHIO– The Kent State Chapter of Uplifting Athletes is using college football as a platform to shine a spotlight on the Rare Disease Community by holding a Touchdown Pledge Drive throughout the month of October.
Uplifting Athletes chapters are run by college football student-athletes. So, for fans, this is a great way to support the players on your favorite team in their off-the-field efforts by supporting their on-field performance in October.
The leadership team of the Kent State Chapter, led by President Antwan Dixon, and all the members of the 2019 Golden Flashes squad is asking fans to support them when Kent State plays Wisconsin, Akron, Ohio and Miami (Ohio) by making a pledge through the Kent State Chapter online Touchdown Pledge Drive site at pledgeit.org/kentstatetd19.
Fans can simply make a pledge for each touchdown the Golden Flashes score in October, then as the games unfold, watch and cheer as each touchdown scored helps raise money to support the Rare Disease Community.
The proceeds from the Kent State Chapter 2019 Touchdown Pledge Drive support the mission of Uplifting Athletes and its charitable programs: Rare Disease Awareness, Rare Disease Research, Uplifting Experiences and Uplifting Leaders.
The challenges faced by the Rare Disease Community are bigger than any one individual, team or organization can tackle alone. The grassroots effort of the Kent State Chapter, along with a nationwide network of teams, is uniquely positioned to educate and engage the local community and shine a spotlight on rare diseases.
The Kent State football program was inspired to help Tackle Rare Diseases by Golden Flashes wide receiver Antwan Dixon, who returned to the field in 2019 after a 36-month absence while battling the rare blood disorder a-plastic anemia.
Dixon was a finalist for the 11th Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion Award. The 2019 Lift For Life was the first opportunity for the Kent State Chapter to support the Rare Disease Community.
