Three Flashes Score Double-Figures in Win Over Concord

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team closed its homestand with an 89-59 win over Concord on Thursday night, as three players tallied double-digit scoring inside the M.A.C. Center.
Kent State remains perfect as the Flashes improved to 5-0 on the season.
Junior Danny Pippen led the way with a game-high 17-points shooting 7-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-5 from downtown along with three rebounds and two blocks. Junior Tervell Beck had a breakout game with 15 points and four boards, while sophomore Anthony Roberts rounded out double-figure scoring with 15 points.
Freshman Giovanni Santiago tallied a team-high five assists to along with his five points and senior Mitch Peterson swiped a game-high four steals.
Seniors Philip Whittington (9 points, 5 rebounds), CJ Williamson (7 points, 3 rebounds), and Antonio Williams (5 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists) also filled up the box score which saw 14 players see action – 10 of them contributing double-digits minutes.
As a team, Kent State shot 45.2 percent from the floor and hit 11 three-pointers (33.3 percent) while going 12-of-16 (75 percent) from the free-throw line. Defensively, the Flashes held the Mountain Lions to 38 percent shooting overall and 33 percent from deep. Kent State won the battle on the boards, 45-34, pulling down 19 offensive boards, and also picking Concord for 11 steals.
The Flashes got off to a much better start than in previous games as Kent State jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Concord. Beck fueled the Flashes' offensive efforts in the first half scoring 13 points coming off the bench. Kent State jumped out to a 21-point lead with a minute remaining, fueled by a 7-0 run that was highlighted by a three from Roberts and a thunderous dunk by Williams.
Up by 18 points at the halftime intermission, Kent State used an 8-2 run over the first five minutes of the second half, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from Pippen, to push the margin above 20 points, where it stayed for the remainder of the game.
Concord saw three players finish with double-figure scoring nights as Kelly Jr. recorded 16 points and Heller and Brisco scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Kent State hits the road and makes the trek down I-71 to Columbus to take on Ohio State on Monday night. Tip time between the Golden Flashes and the #10 Buckeyes is set for 6:30 p.m.
