
Flashes Second Half Run Not Enough Against Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Despite a second-half surge by the Flashes that tied the game with 10 minutes remaining, the Kent State men's basketball team (5-1) dropped its first game of the season to No. 10 Ohio State, 71-52 at St. John Arena Monday night.
The Buckeyes led by as many as 17 (40-23) before the Flashes rallied midway through the second, capping the rally with a 16-4 run that tied the game at 48. The spurt was fueled by a 3-pointer from Danny Pippen and a pair of threes from Antonio Williams.
The Buckeyes answered by scoring 17-straight points with 11 of those coming from the foul line. Ohio State held a big advantage at the free throw line, where they shot 22-of-30 compared to Kent State's 4-of-7.
The Flashes opened the game with a 5-0 lead with a three from Simons, followed by a jumper from Whittington. Pippen led the Flashes' offensive efforts in the first half scoring six points. Ohio State jumped out to a 14-point lead with a minute remaining, fueled by a 7-0 run. The Buckeyes held a 35-23 lead at the intermission.
Pippen scored a season-high 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor and 3-of-10 from long range. The forward grabbed eight boards and had two blocks to complete his night. Williams rounded out the Flashes double-figure scoring with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists.
The Flashes return home as they host Stetson on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the M.A.C. Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
