Big First Half Lifts Flashes to Road Victory over EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Kent State put 40 points on the board and led by 16 at halftime in a 67-54 road victory against Eastern Michigan on Wednesday evening inside of the Convocation Center.
The Golden Flashes (13-9, 6-5 MAC) have beaten the Eagles in all six matchups under third-year head coach Todd Starkey and snapped a three-game road losing streak.
Senior Alexa Golden recorded the team's first double-double of the season with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Golden added four steals, two assists and two blocked shots.
All five Kent State starters had at least eight points. Redshirt junior Megan Carter scored 12 and had a team-best three assists. Freshmen Asiah Dingle and Lindsey Thall added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Junior Ali Poole totaled eight points and eight rebounds.
Golden scored all of her points in the first half and Kent State led 40-24 heading into the locker room, matching its largest halftime lead of the season against a Division I opponent.
After having the lead trimmed to 55-44 with 8:14 remaining, the Flashes clamped down defensively and held the Eagles scoreless for the next four-plus minutes. Thall's triple at the 4:03 mark gave Kent State its largest lead of the night, 63-44.
The Flashes will return to the M.A.C. Center for the annual Play4Kay game against Bowling Green on Saturday, Feb. 16.
