
Track and Field Seeks Big Marks at Jesse Owens Classic, Tom Jones Memorial

The Kent State track and field team program will have student-athletes in action this weekend at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic and Florida's Tom Jones Memorial. Competition for both meets will be held on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.

A total of 54 Golden Flashes are registered for competition at the Jesse Owens Classic. The hammer throw and javelin will get the action started at 2 p.m. on Friday. Action on the track is slated to start at 6:30 p.m. with the 5K and 1500-meter run being the only running events of the evening.
Field events will start the day on Saturday with the women's shot put and men's discus slated for 10:30 a.m. The women's 4x100 relay opens running events at 12 p.m.
The men's side will have 24 athletes in action, headlined by Christian Champen (pole vault, long jump), Ryan Demaline (shot put, discus), Brandon Harris (100m, 200m), TJ Lawson (long jump) and Jake Wickey (hammer throw, discus).
A total of 30 athlete are set for action on the women's day. Top performers include Gabby Bailey (discus, shot put), Rachel Banks (800m, 1500m), Maria Horrigan (pole vault), Christy Nell (pole vault) and Ally Thompson (pole vault).

The Golden Flashes will send six student-athletes compete at the Tom Jones Memorial.
Nicole Yeargin will be the lone competitor on the track, running in the 200-meter dash on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the 400-meter dash on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. Yeargin ranks 30th nationally in the 200m with a school-record time of 23.26 at the Tennessee Relays. Last weekend, the junior sprinter clocked a personal-best 54.00 in the 400m.
Samory Fraga will be in action on Friday evening. Fraga ranks second in the MAC in the long jump with a top jump of 25'-4.5 at the Tennessee Relays" and owns a No. 21 national ranking.
Craig Stevens, Jr. and Anthony Milliner are slated for action in the triple jump on Saturday. Stevens, Jr. ranks 12th nationally after leaping 52'-8.25" in his only competition of the outdoor season.
Alyssa Matheny and Talia Falco will compete in the women's high jump. Falco owns a No. 21 national ranking with a personal-best clearance of 5'-10.5" at the Raleigh Relays.
Saturday's action will air on SEC Network + from 1-5:15 p.m.

The Golden Flashes will conclude the regular season next weekend with the Campbell/Wright Invitational on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.
