CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State junior Karoline Stormo has been named Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced late Wednesday evening.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Stormo's record-setting second round allowed her to capture medalist honors while lead 10th-ranked Kent State to its 21st MAC Women's Golf championship in a row. She shot a 65 (-7) during the second round to beat the previous 18-hole championship record by two strokes. Her 211 (-5) is tied for the second-lowest 54-hole score in championship history. Stormo concluded the tournament with a 70 over the final 18 holes on Sunday to lead the Golden Flashes to an 18-stroke victory. The junior, who was also named MAC Golfer of the Year following Sunday's competition, has tied Kent State's single-season record with four victories this year.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the Golden Flashes will compete in the NCAA East Lansing Regional at Forest Akers West Golf Course from May 6-8.
