Flashes in Second Through Round One of MAC Championship

AURORA, Ohio – The Kent State Golden Flashes men's golf team concluded the first round of play at Club Walden in second place with a score of 11-over par 300.
Saturday served as the opening day for the tournament as Friday's first and second rounds were suspended due to inclement weather and course conditions.
Senior Gisli Sveinbergsson led the Flashes with a first round 1-under 71 in a tie for second place as he ended his round with a birdie on hole 18. Sveinbergsson was one of three players that shot an under-par score in the opening round.
Sophomore Will Kurtz had an impressive showing, as he came in with a 1-over 73 and tied for fourth place going into the second round. Kurtz finished his opening round with four birdies.
Chris Doody and Bjarki Petursson both fired in 6-over 78 as they tied for 21st on the leaderboard, while Julien Paltrinieri added in a round of 8-over 80.
Eastern Michigan leads the first round of the Mid-American Conference Championship by 6 strokes with a score of 5-over 294.
Kent State will continue play for the second round today, as they conclude a long 36-hole day of golf. Josh Gilkison was utilized as a sub for Kent State in the second round for Julien Paltrinieri. The final round will commence at 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning as live scoring will be provided through golfstat.com.
