Barrett and Nell Lead Flashes on First Day of Northeast Ohio Quad

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Kalli Barrett and Christy Nell entered their names into the Kent State outdoor record book during Friday's action at the Northeast Ohio Quad.
Barrett got the action started on the track by running the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:04.55, which was good for second-place and the 10th-fastest time in Golden Flashes history.
Nell cleared 12'-7.5" on her first attempt and finished third in the women's pole vault. The junior's height puts her ninth in the school's record book. Maria Horrigan and Ally Thompson were also able to clear the bar at 12'-7.5" and finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Flashes' men's squad placed second in the pole vault and 3,000-meter steeplechase. Christian Champen posted a season-best height of 17'-0.25" and is one of only 30 vaulters to clear 17' or higher during the outdoor season. Colton Shail completed his first collegiate steeplechase in 9:49.72.
Kent State's sprinters enjoyed a successful day. Mi'Angel Daniels (12.40), Angelique Wong (12.46) and Brynn Santos (12.47) went second, third and fourth in the women's 100-meter dash, while Benja Duff clocked a 14.30 for a runner-up finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Brandon Harris (10.80) and Brandon Wilson (10.94) took second and third, respectively, in the men's 100-meter dash.
Harris and Wilson were joined by Shaquille Perry and Zavien Parker to take second in the men's 4x100 meter relay with a time of 41.73. The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Kamya Lapsley, Lianna Tirado, Santos and Sarah Pack also placed second, crossing the finish line in 4:00.02.
The Flashes also had four third-place finishes on the track — Kevin Jones in the men's 800-meter run (1:56.77), Ruby Greenwood in the women's 400-meter dash (59.19), Lianna Tirado in the women's 1,500-meter run (4:44.69) and Leah Lisle in the women's 5,000-meter run (18:15.82).
The Golden Flashes will head to the University of Akron's Lee R. Jackson Field for throwing events on Saturday, April 6. The men's hammer throw will get the day started at 10 a.m.
