
Gilkison Leads Flashes After Round One of Pullman Regionals

PULLMAN, Wash.- The Kent State men's golf team stand in 10th place after round one at the NCAA Pullman Regional, posting a 4-under 276 on Monday at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
No. 20 Texas A&M is the opening round leader at 11-under 269, one shot better than No. 5 Oklahoma in second at 10-under 270. No. 8 Georgia Tech is third at 9-under 271, followed by No. 32 BYU at 8-under 272 and Michigan State in fifth at 7-under 273.
The Flashes were led by sophomore Josh Gilkison following a 3-under 67. His score of 67 is a season-best. Gilkison went 17 holes for par better and hit four birdies. He is tied for ninth headed into the second round.
Senior Bjarki Petursson is tied for 23rd after firing a 1-under 69. Petursson started the round strong with birdies on the No. 15 and the par-5 No. 18 hole. He had back-to-back birdies on holes No. 2 and No. 3 before a pair of bogeys that closed out the day.
Senior Gisli Sveinbergsson and junior Chris Doody are both tied for 37th at even-par. Sveinbergsson went 15 holes for par or better with three birdies, while Doody shot three birdies on his opening nine holes.
Sophomore Will Kurtz rounds out the lineup and stands in a tie for 51st (+1, 71) making three birdies.
Kent State will be paired with Colorado State and Northern Colorado in round two, teeing off the No. 10 hole, beginning at 11:55 a.m. ET.
