KENT, Ohio – Anthony Morris Jr., an incoming freshman football student-athlete, has been awarded a scholarship by former Kent State student Steve Harvey. Morris is one of eight incoming students who have been awarded scholarships by the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation. Morris, along with the seven other awardees, appeared on Harvey's talk show "Steve" on June 26.
Morris, an incoming linebacker with the Golden Flashes football squad, is a local product from Cleveland where he attended Ginn Academy High School. He accomplished many academic and athletic feats including receiving the title of the valedictorian of the Class of 2019. In his junior year, he became a member of a prestigious honors society, Phi Theta Kappa, and also received the Harvard Book Award at the Ivy League Book Prize ceremony.
The scholarships the eight students received will cover the total cost of attendance while all recipients must maintain a 2.5 grade point average for the scholarships to renew each semester.
Harvey, who is known nationally from his standup comedy and television appearances, most notably hosting Family Feud, has continued his involvement within the Kent State community. The creation of the scholarships coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Psi Gamma Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity where Harvey pledged as a student. The foundation made the commitment during a special meeting on campus in April.
The scholarships are dedicated in memory of Devin Moore, a Kent State student and member of the Psi Gamma Chapter who died in 2017 while playing basketball at Kent State's Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
