
Four Flashes Named WGCA All-American Scholars

KENT, Ohio- Four Kent State women's golfers were named to the 2018-19 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar Team, announced by the organization this afternoon. Freshman Thitapa Pakdeesettakul , sophomore Kory Nielsen, junior Karoline Stormo, and senior Michaela Finn all earned the honor. This marks the third consecutive year Stormo has been named to the WGCA All-America Team and the second consecutive time for Nielsen.
The criteria for the selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. A total of 1,097 women's collegiate golfers were recognized this year with this prestigious honor.
Pakdeesettakul finished her freshman season with a 74.23 scoring average during 30 rounds of golf, including a low round of 67 in the MAC Championship. Named MAC Freshman of the Year, Pakdeesettakul shot 10 rounds for par of better throughout the season and won one tournament, the BYU Entrada Classic.
Nielsen, a member of the All-MAC Second Team, competed in eight tournaments this season with a scoring average of 73.96, while completing six rounds for par or better. She had three top-20 finishes and her best finish was 13th at the Lady Buckeye invitational.
Stormo had a record-setting season including being named the 2019 MAC Golfer of the Year. She ranked 15th nationally in scoring average (71.85), a third-best in program history, and stands at No. 34 in the latest Golfstat individual rankings. Stormo had five top-5 finishes this season and tied a Kent State single-season win record with four tournament titles. She led the nation with 136 birdies and ranks third-most in KSU history. In the conference tournament, Stormo was crowned the MAC Championships individual medalist and named to the All-MAC First Team. Stormo also competed in the U.S. Women's Open and the Arnold Palmer Cup.
Finn finished her Kent State career with a scoring average of 73.08 through 39 rounds of golf. Named All-MAC First Team, Finn finished the 2018-19 season with six top-5 finishes and one tournament win (Illini Invitational at Medinah). As the No. 55 ranked player in the nation, Finn completed 24 rounds for par or better with seven rounds in the 60's. She shot her lowest round (67) at the BYU at Entrada Classic. Finn also competed in the Augusta Women's Amateur Championship.
As a team, the Flashes posts a 3.53 team cumulative GPA, the fourth-straight semester with a 3.5 or higher.
