Strong First Half Lifts Kent State Over UBC

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Led by strong performances from its four newcomers, Kent State cruised to a 94-54 win over the University of British Columbia on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Katie Shumate led all players with 19 points and 12 rebounds. The Newark, Ohio native displayed her overall skill set and added two assists, two blocked shots and one steal in 24 minutes of action. Classmate Clare Kelly drained four three-pointers for 12 points and fellow freshman Nila Blackford scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior Linsey Marchese, a transfer from Indiana, provided 10 points.
Sophomore Asiah Dingle scored 17 points for the second game in a row while adding six steals and six assists. Classmate Lindsey Thall, the top shot blocker in the Mid-American Conference last season, swatted four shots.
The Golden Flashes totaled 16 assists to only 12 turnovers during the second game of their exhibition trip to Canada.
Kent State will play the final game of the trip at Vancouver Island University at 8 p.m. ET on Monday.
