
Flashes Come Up Short Against Fairfield

St Louis, Mo.- The Kent State field hockey team (3-3) fell, 2-1, on the road to Fairfield (4-1) at a neutral site on Friday afternoon at Sportport International.
After a scoreless first half, Fairfield got on the board in the 34th minute from a shot in the center of the circle. The Stags doubled their advantage in the final quarter with a goal just 42 seconds into the period.
The Stags' two-goal lead stuck until freshman Claudia Ortiz scored the Flashes' lone goal with a long shot to the far post with just 15 seconds remaining in the game.
Junior Clara Rodriguez Seto led the Flashes with three shots and placed one on target. Fairfield outshot Kent State 11-7, and slightly edged the Flashes in penalty corners, 6-5.
Junior goalkeeper Azure Fernsler (3-3) made three saves.
Kent State returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 16 to take on Saint Louis at 3 p.m. EST.
