Indianapolis, Ind. – Behind sophomore Tianna Harris' first career goal, Kent State attempted to comeback from an early deficit, but ultimately could not do so as Butler scored late on its home field to win, 2-1. The Golden Flashes (1-4-1) fell to 1-2-1 in the all-time series against the Bulldogs (5-3).
The Bulldogs, who are the highest scoring team in the BIG EAST, got on the scoreboard first in the ninth minute. Sophomore Anja Savich scored on a penalty kick to put BU in front.
Kent State possessed the ball for the majority of the middle part of the match and that's when the Flashes struck to even the score. Harris scored in the 41st minute knocking on a corner kick that redshirt sophomore Karly Hellstrom served in. Hellstrom has been a part of all three Kent State scores this year (2g, 1a) and leads the team with 5 points.
When the match looked like it might be ticketed for overtime, Butler scored in the 80th minute. Freshman Becky Dean scored a goal in the top shelf of the net on an assist from senior Macy Miller.
KSU had an advantage in shots (11-9), while both teams placed seven on goal. Butler also held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 9-8. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Faith O'Neill (1-4-1) made five stops for the Flashes while Stephanie Rodriguez (5-3) made six for BU.
Butler got back to its winning ways at home as it fell to Illinois, 2-1, on Thursday in its first home loss in three seasons.
The Golden Flashes are back on the road their non-conference finale on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Youngstown State at 1 p.m.
