Flashes Top Penguins in Non-Conference Finale

Youngstown, Ohio – Kent State's (2-4-1) offense recorded a season-high in goals and won its final non-conference game of the year, 4-2, over Youngstown State (2-7-1) at Farmers National Bank Field at the Covelli Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. Junior Cameron Shedenelm sparked the Golden Flashes offense with the second two-goal performance of her career.
The Flashes had a strong upper hand maintaining possession and scored early in the 11th minute. Shedenhelm netted her first goal of the day straight out beating the dive of the Youngstown State goalkeeper.
Freshman Grace Wolber got on the board in the 24th minute with the first goal of her collegiate career. KSU had a 2-0 advantage at the intermission and just into the second period Shedenhelm struck for her second goal of the day in the 51st minute. Junior Vital Kats registered an assist.
Junior Maddie Holmes earned a penalty kick attempt and scored her first goal of the season in the 61st minute. The Penguins scored twice in the 70th and 78th minutes.
Kent State has dominated the all-time series against their regional rival and moved to 11-1 versus YSU and have won ten in a row.
Goalkeeper Faith O'Neill (2-4-1) made three saves while facing five shots.
Kent State begins Mid-American Conference play next weekend when its travels to Western Michigan on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. and Northern Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.
