Flashes Head to Louisville for Midweek Road Slate

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University field hockey team (1-1) is set to travel to Louisville for a midweek road contest with the 12th-ranked Cardinals on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
The Flashes began the 2019 campaign at home last weekend defeating St. Francis, 5-2, and falling to Michigan State, 1-0. The Flashes dominated offensively throughout the game, holding a 20-6 advantage in shot attempts, while sophomore Luisa Knapp led the attack with four shots and two goals. Junior goalkeeper Azure Fernsler earned her first win of the season and tallied three saves.
In the game against the Spartans, Kent State played a strong defensive game, holding Michigan State to a single goal in six shots and four corners. The Flashes edged the Spartans 13-6 in shots with 11 of them in the first half. Freshman Maria Cambra Soler led the charge with her five shot attempts. Fernsler tallied five saves in the net for Kent State.
SCOUTING LOUISVILLE
The Louisville Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start to the season and have notched six goals on 32 shots. Last weekend, the Cards played host to Indiana and UMass and came away with a 5-0 shutout over the Hoosiers and a 1-0 win over UMass. Senior Bethany Russ delivered her first career hat trick in the 5-0 win over Indiana. The Cards tallied a total of three goals over four minutes in the second quarter.
Louisville outshot UMass 11-4 with six of the Cardinals' shots on target. Both teams played through three scoreless quarters before the Cards were awarded a penalty stroke in the 49th minute of the game that clinched the 1-0 victory.
THE SERIES
This will be the ninth appearance between the two teams as Louisville holds a 7-1 series advantage. The two teams met last season in Kent with the Cards coming away with a 3-1 victory.
