
Flashes Blank Temple in Shutout Victory

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University field hockey team handed Temple its first loss of the season with a 3-0 shutout victory on Friday afternoon at Murphy-Mellis Field.
Kent State improved to 2-2 on the season, while Temple dropped to 2-1. Junior goalkeeper Azure Fernsler improved to 2-2 in the cage for the Flashes and tallied seven saves.
Junior Clara Rodriguez Seto led the surge for the Flashes and scored two goals on five of her shots. Senior Laila Richter also had a multi-shot game and fired four shots and connected on one for her second goal of the season.
The Flashes' first goal came in the 12th minute of the first period when junior Richter set Rodriguez Seto up for her first goal from a penalty corner. The Owls had four shots on goal in their efforts to score in the first period but were unsuccessful in scoring.
Rodriguez Seto fired a long pass that set Richter up for a point-blank goal in the 30th minute that made it 2-0 Kent State.
The duo of Bressler and Rodriguez Seto came together late in the fourth period as Bressler set up another Rodriguez Seto goal from a deflected corner shot that closed out the 3-0 victory.
Kent State edged the Owls in shots 17-12 and had 10 penalty corners to Temple's seven.
The Flashes are back in action as Kent State hosts Maine on Sunday at Murphy-Mellis Field for an 11 a.m. start.
