Lawson and Mally Set for Elite Competition at Razorback Invitational

Redshirt senior TJ Lawson and junior Jacob Mally to will represent the Kent State track and field program by competing in the heptathlon at the Razorback Invitational this weekend.
Competition will begin on Friday at 1 p.m. ET with the 60-meter dash and will come to an end at 3:30 p.m. with the high jump. On Saturday, Lawson and Mally will start at 11:40 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles and finish at 4:15 p.m. with the 1,000-meter run.
Both athletes will attempt to post scores that will earn a spot at the 2020 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico from March 13-14. The duo claimed the top two spots at the Mid-American Conference Championships last season.
Lawson placed fifth at the 2018 national meet with a school-record 5,934 points but was 126 points short of qualifying last season. He was named the MAC Field Athlete of the Week on Monday after setting a personal-best mark of 24'-11" to win the long jump at the Kent State-Akron Dual last Friday.
Mally was ranked 30th in the heptathlon a season ago with a personal-best of 5,388 at the conference meet. Earlier this month, he clocked a personal-best of 8.14 in the 60-meter hurdles, which is the ninth-fastest time in school history.
The 21-athlete field includes four national qualifiers from a year ago and is headlined by Georgia's Johannes Erm. The Estonian national team member has posted top-five national finishes each of the past two seasons. Aaron Booth (Kansas State), Kristo Simulask (Oklahoma) and Tyler Brendel (Arkansas) also competed at the 2019 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Prime time on Friday starts at 7 p.m. ET while featured events on Saturday run from 2-5 p.m. and will be live on SECN+.
The Flashes will be back in action next weekend for the Akron Invitational on February 7 and 8.
