Flashes Shine at Kent State Tune Up

KENT, Ohio - In the final meet before the Mid-American Conference Championships, Kent State came away with four victories, including two on the men's side and two on the women's side, at the Kent State Tune Up inside the Kent State Field House on Saturday.
Lillie Franks finished in first place and tied for ninth on the all-time list in the women's high jump with a personal record of 5'-7". Alyssa Matheny finished third with a height of 5'-5".
The Golden Flashes won both pole vault competitions with Ally Thompson clearing 12'-2.5" in the women's event and Christian Champen had a season-best height of 17'-2.75" on the men's side. Mitchell Kubicki (15'-11") and Lukas Van Der Watt (15'-05") placed second and third, respectively.
Jake Wickey earned the final victory of the day, winning the men's weight throw with a distance of 67'-7".
Grace Tennant headlined seven runner-up finishes with a personal-best throw of 52'-7.5" in the women's shot put, which moves her to eighth all-time in program history. Ruby Greenwood ran a personal-best time of 57.36 in the women's 400-meter dash, while Benja Duff finished the women's 60m hurdles in 9.03. Ryan Demaline had a top throw of 55'-0.25" in the men's shot put.
Kent State captured second and third in both the men's 400-meter dash and men's high jump. Zavien Parker's personal record of 48.73 was just 0.01 from victory, and Korie Davis II was behind with a time of 48.75, also a new personal record. Brad Jones cleared 6'-8.25" and Jack McElligott had a top height of 6'-6.25".
Two more Flashes posted personal-best times in third-place finishes on the track. Nicole Fleming ran the mile in 5:04.12 and Xavier Williams clocked a time of 22.04 in the 200-meter dash.
TJ Lawson crushed his shot put record by almost a foot, posting a throw of 49'-6.5" as he prepared for the heptathlon next weekend.
Kent State will be back in action next weekend as they compete in the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships being held at the University of Akron's Stile Athletics Field House February 28-29.
