
Flashes Open Four Game Homestand Against Butler

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's lacrosse team will open a four-game homestand on Friday, Feb. 28 against Butler at 3 p.m. at Dix Stadium.
Season in Review
The Golden Flashes are coming off three consecutive losses to start the 2020 campaign, but the young team has improved each game this season. They look to pick up their first win of the year against the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Megan Kozar is getting into a groove for the Flashes. She recorded two points in each of her first two games and finally unleashed her potential against St. Bonaventure, scoring four goals in the loss.
Her offensive counterpart, sophomore Abby Jones, leads the Flashes this year with 10 points (8g, 2a). She recorded nine of those points in the first two games but was held scoreless against the Bonnies. It was only the second time she was shutout in her last 13 games.
Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Merrill has made plays in goal for the Flashes all season. She ranks third in the country with 13.33 saves per game. She has a .440 save percentage and 40 total saves this season.
Meghan Cawood has solidified the midfield for Kent State. She ranks second on the team in draw controls (11), ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (3). She has also added two goals and an assist.
One of the bright spots for the Flashes' defense is sophomore Maddy Mead. The Upper Arlington, Ohio started only five games last season while recovering from a knee injury suffered in high school, but she has started all three games in 2020 and leads the team in caused turnovers (5) and ranks second on the team in ground balls (5).
Scouting Butler
The Golden Flashes nearly took down the Bulldogs in their inaugural season, holding a lead in the second half before Butler clawed back and grabbed the victory, 13-9.
The Bulldogs look to continue their fast 2-1 start. They are allowing just 6.00 goals per game this season. They shutout Hanover College and beat Detroit Mercy 19-4.
Butler is led on offense by sophomore Lindsey Schreiber (7g, 1a) and junior Ashley Guerra (7g, 1a). The team's well-balanced offense has nine players with three or more points so far this season.

The Golden Flashes continue their four-game homestand with a rescheduled contest against Cincinnati on Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m., followed by a midweek matchup against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday, March 10 at 3 p.m. Kent State concludes its homestand with future Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan on Friday, March 13 at 3 p.m.
