
Flashes First in MAC After Defeating Miami

KENT, Ohio โ The Kent State field hockey team (9-4, 4-1 MAC) downed Miami 1-0 at Murphy-Mellisย Field to moveย into a tie for first place in the Mid-American Conference.
The Flashes got off to a fast start scoring on their first shot attempt they got on goal. Junior Maria Cambra Soler would find the back of the net off a penalty corner at the 6:19 minute mark to take a 1-0 lead. Seniors Helena Cambra Soler and Luisa Knapp were credited with the assists.
After striking first, Kent State's offense slowed down significantly which allowed Miami to go on the attack. The Redhawks finished the game leading the Flashes in shots (16-4), shots on goal (8-3), and penalty corners (11-3), but fifth year goalkeeper Azure Fernsler was a brick wall and never allowed Miami to capitalize on any of their chances.
Fernsler ended the game with eight saves for Kent State resulting in the Flashes 1-0 victory.
Kent State will face off again on Sunday, October 17 as they travel to take on Bucknell. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
